Neil will be giving a talk entitled Observing Programming Novices on a Large Scale and will explore his work on how people learn to program, what they find difficult and what problems slow them down.
Life is mostly good for the modern computer programmer. Occasionally though, a programming task is not well suited to the feature-set of a single programming language. This short talk will demonstrate the challenges of programming language composition and (with a demonstration) how the Software Development Team at King's College London propose to overcome them.
In his talk Virtual Tricksters: Videogames and Slapstick Comedy Ben explores how videogames can be comedies that are amusing as a result of artistic choice. But they can also be seen as artefacts that have their own intrinsic man-made qualities that are often unintentionally funny or can be exploited for comic value.
