Launch focus: Radiography Careers

By Lizzie Hodgson | 26th May 2014
Deeson Online have been working with Society and College of Radiographers for 19 years.
We recently overhauled their careers site, radiographycareers.co.uk. Here we outline the whys, whats and hows of our approach.

About SoR

The Society and College of Radiographers (SCoR) is the professional body and trades union for radiographers and others that work in diagnostic imaging and radiotherapy services. They have over 26,000 members and represent some 80% of all registered radiographers in the UK.

Aims of Radiography Careers website

  • Raise awareness of a career in radiography
  • Drive engagement among potential radiography students by creating an attractive, contemporary site
  • Provide clear information and signposting for enquiries
  • Position SoR as a relevant resource to an increasingly digital-savvy audience

A broad audience

  • Students: 11 and under, 11-14 years and 16-18 years
  • Mature students
  • Professionals and career returners
  • Teachers, parents and career advisors
  • International students

Creativity and innovation

  • Created fresh, distinctive branding and design
  • Produced short interview videos with qualified radiographers and students to engage audiences
  • Created characterful and original illustrations for each area of the site

Interactivity and exploration

  • Users of all levels can play a fun quiz, based on multiple choice questions using real x-ray images
  • An interactive ‘game of radiography life’ highlights possible career progression within radiography
  • A defined ‘route’ through the site to encourage users to navigate to the content that should engage them most, which should lead them to explore further

Execution

  • It had to be responsive, especially as statistics show the user base is most likely to access the site via mobile device
  • SoR knew it was important that the site represented both diagnostic and therapeutic radiography, so this is incorporated in all areas
  • Incorporates Twitter and Google Plus, with fresh content which is sharable via social media

The result?

It's early days, but the client is very pleased with it and we'll be carrying out user feedback to ensure the site meets the needs and demands of the user, and SCoR.

Hi

I'm wanting to return to practice as a Diagnostic Radiography after a break. Since leaving, for the past ten years I have taught Health and Social Science practitioners in a University. However I am struggling to find a hospital department that can accommodate me to do my radiography updating hours.

Has anyone else found this to be a difficulty? or does anyone know of how I might do this?
Any ideas are most welcome!

Many Thanks in anticipation.
Denise
