Digibury: 2014 Culture Awards Finalist

By Lizzie Hodgson | 29th May 2014
We're delighted to announce that Digibury has been shortlisted as a Finalist for 2014 Culture Awards in the One to Watch category.

What are the Culture Awards?

Established in 2011, the Culture Awards are organisd by Canterbury for Culture as part of a partnership with Canterbury City Council district.

The awards celebrate and recognise the outstanding work of creative practitioners in East Kent, from artists and performers to venues and commercial designers, working across a range of disciplines.

What is the One to Watch Award?

This category is all about recognising outstanding potential and the promise of realisation for cultural organisations, groups or individuals in East Kent that started out less than five years ago. So yep, that sums up Digibury!

We're in great company!

The other two finalists in this category are CoCo and the Butterfields and Three Half Pints.

CoCo and the Butterfields are a five-strong group that perform a fusion of folk, pop and hip hop, or “Fip Fok” as they call it.

Slapstick trio Three Half Pints are the comedy group in residence at The Gulbenkian Theatre in Canterbury. They create high-energy sketches following the lives of three brothers, Dick, Derek and Ernie.

Both CoCo and the Butterfields and Three Half Pints are really interesting performers doing some pretty cool stuff, so whatever the outcome, it's going to be a great evening.

The big night

The awards ceremony takes place at The Gulbenkian on 12 June. You can find out more info here, but watch this space for further news on the winners!

Want to know what all the fuss is about?

Come along on 11 June for our next Digibury!

We have talks from Hajaj Memon on how she crowdfunded the world's first pop-up Koran, while Emily Guille-Marrett will explore the pros and cons of new technology for children’s reading. We'll also have a panel debate on tech's impact on education, with audience participation.

We kick off 7.30pm at The Gulbenkian, so come along! And don't forget Digibury is free and open to all!
