Frontend United was in London last week, bringing together designers, themers, just about everyone who cares about the "front end", that is the user-facing aspect of digital products.

DrupalCamp London was last week, and was a lot of fun.

I went to the business day, which was splendidly interesting. Here's the first summary of some of the highlights for me.

What digital lessons can we learn from the world's largest museum for decorative arts and design? A whole lot!

It’s official. Geeks have evolved. They’ve moved out of the broom cupboard and along the corridors, into the hearts and minds of organisations. And they’re calling themselves ‘Creative Technologists’...

Talking at the Museums Computer Group’s ‘Digitally Strategic’ Conference on Friday 30 November, Andrew Dobson of Grand Union described the changes that have taken place in the digital world over the past 20 years.

UK Museums on the Web 2012

By Simon Bostock | 14th November 2012

We've been doing a lot of work hooking things up lately. Like bringing together Digital Asset Management systems to search interfaces. Or document libraries to ebook retailer systems. Or iOS apps to websites.

(And even hooking people up with each other at one of our #digibury events!)

In the age of open journalism, where anyone can publish anything via the internet, how can publications make the most of user generated content and really engage with their readers?

We did a webinar with Acquia on 'Cost-effective development with Drupal Commerce' this afternoon. The slides are below. Plus, here's a post about the kind of stuff we thought about when we were producing the webinar.

Pingdom is one of my favourite free tools for monitoring uptime of the websites we create – everyone should use it! It not only saves money but, crucially, it avoids embarrassment with clients and customers. How?

It comes down to understandng how reliable your site is. Downtime can be very damaging – it can lead to loss of sales, upset customers and creates a negative image. If people can't access your site, the chances are they'll head elsewhere.

There’s a revolution going on in magazine publishing. Take the esteemed listings magazine Time Out as an example. Two months ago they bravely decided to go free and in one fell swoop boosted weekly circulation from 50,000 to more than 300,000.

D-Day in Canterbury

BIMA-D-Day Pet-Finder from Canterbury High students with Deeson Online

Last Wednesday, I was lucky enough to be asked to go to Canterbury High School as part of BIMA's D-Day - BIMA are the British Interactive Media Association and the 'D' stands for 'Digital'.

Eager to keep up with the big changes heralded by Drupal 8, I headed to London for Symfony Live London 2012 - 13th & 14th September 2012. This was a two-day event organised by Sensio Labs, the creators of Symfony. It was the first major Symfony event to be held in London.

DrupalCamp Moscow

By Graeme Blackwood | 17th June 2012

I was in Russia earlier this month attending DrupalCamp Moscow, where I was invited to present on Object Oriented CSS by my friend and organiser Artem Pankov. I had the pleasure of meeting Drupal enthusiasts and professionals from all over Russia and the CIS, and we generally had a great deal of fun!

Drupal Store

I've been having fun working with the Drupal Association on the design for their new Drupal store.

We're beginning to get the first few enquiries worrying about the so-called Cookie Law. To save everybody a bit of time (and stress) here's a very brief guide to 'current thinking'.

(We say 'current thinking' because nobody seems to know that much about exactly what's going to happen. And we have to stress; this is not legal advice, we are not lawyers, always read the smallprint, ask a grown-up to help you with anything involving scissors!)

Okay, here are the links.

A couple of weekends ago I went to Brighton for the DrupalCamp Brighton / BadCampUK, great fun!

I had the pleasure of doing a talk on general Drupal performance optimisation. I aimed to cover so much stuff that it was hard to fit it into a 30 minute time slot. Luckily there are quite a few links on the slides (also see the slide notes) as my aim was to give a jumping off point for people to dive into whatever aspect of performance interests them.
